My five star review of Danny’s Main

A man walks into a bar- and you’d expect me to follow that up with a joke. Well, it’s how Danny’s Main starts, and let me tell you- it’s far from a joke! I have loved Lisa’s writing since Thursday Nights ended up on my TBR and I read it on a whim, and fell in love with the characters. And while this novel is a standalone with different characters- it very much has characters that have become family to me, and they live in the fictional place called Charistown.

Lisa takes us on the emotional roller coaster of Danny and Julie. I mean, finally!! Don’t you want to hear their story? I know I did. We saw snippets of how they are in the present, but didn’t you want to know how they met? How they came to be the people they are today? And why the patrons and workers at their bar, are considered their family? I am so glad Lisa decided to write this story, because it needed to be told. And it isn’t hearts and unicorns, it’s a lot of thorns, and nightmares- but all becomes right in the world, and they end up right where they are supposed to be.

This book had everything- all the feelings too. I was happy, happy that they found each other, and they found a life together. And happy they could just be who they were- and that was enough. I was sad, sad that they had to go through such tough losses, sad that their lives sometimes seemed to spiral- but they always knew how to bring it back around. With Danny as the foundation, and Julie as the building built on top- their love was strong and fortified over the years. I loved what Lisa did with this book, and even if you read it as a standalone, you have to go back and read all the others in this series to really gain a new found respect for Danny and Julie. And after reading this, I really understood why they are the way they are, in a good way.

Pick up this fantastic read, you won’t be disappointed!

Ultimate Deception Promo!!

Title: Ultimate Deception
Series: Harden #2
Author: Lynn Stookes
Genre: Adult, Contemporary Romance
Coming: September 25, 2015
In a matter of months, Dani Delaney's world drastically changed. Now, she faces the toughest challenge of her life and is determined to handle it on her own.

Detective Sawyer Woods will do anything to be with Dani, the woman he's dreamed about since he first laid eyes on her, but she'll have nothing to do with him, no matter how much charm he uses.

It isn't until Dani receives threatening messages and criminal activites happen around town that she's forced to accept the help of the one man who can bring her to her knees. Can Sawyer protect the one woman who doesn't want him and convince her to give him a shot? Or can one lie destroy it all?

Tristan’s fists clench by his side as he glares at me. “You son of a…”
Meeting his glare, I interrupt without looking away, “Blake, why don’t you have your mom and sisters take the kids inside?”
“Sawyer,” Dani gasps beside me, clutching my shirt.
“It’s okay, sweetheart,” I reply, brushing my lips across her forehead. “It has to happen.”
Lifting my head, I glance in Blake’s direction, urging him to get the kids inside.
“Shit,” I hear Blake mumble under his breath. “Ma, why don’t you and the girls take the kids in the house? The front of the house, okay?”
“Boys,” Mrs. Winters begins, but Mr. Winters interrupts.
“Come on, dear. They have to deal with this their own way,” he says.
“But…”
“Gloria,” he says sternly, but lovingly.
Within a few minutes, the children are inside the house and Blake’s brothers and father are the only ones left to step in if things get out of hand. Duncan and Blake stand closely behind me, while Jamie and Alec stand behind Tristan. Kylie and Harper are to the side, while Dani clings to me. If I wasn’t about to get my ass kicked by her brother, I would enjoy the way she willingly holds onto me in front of our friends who know the truth about how our relationship started.
“Dani, go stand with Kylie and Harper, please,” I say.
“No,” she demands. “You two are not fighting about this.”
“We’re not fighting, right, Tristan?” I say, glancing his way. “We’ll just have a heated discussion.”
Blake lightly pulls Dani away. “Come on, Dani. Let them get it over with.”
She reluctantly walks into Kylie and Harper’s open arms. They embrace her and I return my attention to Tristan. “So, what do you have to say?”
Without warning, Tristan’s fist flies towards my face, connecting with my jaw. I stumble back a few steps, rubbing my hand across my jaw. Fuck. That hurt.
“Is that all you got?” I ask, glaring back at Tristan. The first one I would give him, but anymore and it was fair game.
“Sawyer, man,” Blake speaks from behind me. “Remember don’t taunt the bear.”
“How could you, jackass?” Tristan grits out.
I chuckle. “I didn’t think I’d have to explain the birds and the bees to you, man, but I will if I have to. When a boy gets excited, he gets a happy stick and puts it in a girl’s…”
Tristan tackles me to the ground. He quickly pins me and takes a swing. I manage to dodge it, but the next one comes out of nowhere, catching me on the opposite side of my face from the first punch. With all my strength, I roll him over, pinning him to the ground this time and swing. My fist connects with his nose. At the last second, I pull back some, not hitting him with my full force. I may want to kick his ass, but I don’t want to really hurt my friend. He’s just defending his sister and that’s something I’m eternally grateful for.

Lynn Stookes was born and raised in the amazing state of Texas, where she currently resides with her husband of five years. They have one rambunctious two year old son and three furry children, who create the chaos she couldn’t live without.

One day, Lynn took her passion (maybe obsession is more apt) for romance books and mystery shows and wrote her first romantic suspense novel, Fatal Obsession, Book 1 in the Harden Series.

When Lynn isn’t writing or working her day job, you can find her reading on her Kindle, spending time with her family and friends, or playing on Facebook. She loves running, coffee, and country music in no particular order.

She's currently working on the next book in the Harden Series.

Nothing Ventured blog tour!!

Nothing Ventured Synopsis:
Mia Bradshaw realized long ago that falling in love is a harbinger of pain. As a single mom working for one of the most prestigious venture capital firms in the country, she doesn’t have time for serious emotional entanglements. Her sort-of–friend boy is dependable, respectful and…okay, fine, maybe a little lukewarm but whatever! Who ever said there was anything wrong with being…vanilla? It’s safe, low-risk and not fraught with conflict and heart wrenching disappointment.

Chris Camden is one of the most eligible bachelors in northern California. A successful entrepreneur with a hot car and a panty-dropping grin doesn’t need to do much to keep his bed warm at night. His smoldering hazel-eyed gaze makes women melt at his feet. No strings, no conditions, no questions - just the way he likes it. Why should he settle for just one when there are so many sizzling alternatives begging for a spin?

A coveted opportunity to partner with Chris’s company stirs up emotions that threaten everything Mia’s been so careful to protect and control. The guy with more lines than a crowded supermarket before a snowstorm can singe her insides with the slightest accidental touch, proof that she needs to steer clear.

But reality hurls a very unexpected curve ball that can change Mia’s life in a heartbeat. And sometimes…the perception of safety is relative.

My 4 star review of Nothing Ventured

This is my first Kristen Luciani and it won’t be my last. It was definitely well written- and had the heroine I have SO been craving! She had the best of both worlds- soft and hard in the right places.

Mia is the heroine of the story- and I really had a girl crush on her. She plays basketball, and is kick ass at that- on top of being a single mother, and working full time. She does her best to provide for her family- and she does that in spades. She doesn’t ever seem to have time to just do something she wants to do. It’s all for her child. And she wants a man; she wants to settle down- when she can find the time, and on her terms- not her mothers. She does not want to introduce her daughter to a man and have her get attached if something were to go wrong. Then she meets Chris.

Chris is the hero. He seems to have it all- and does not like to do relationships. He is more of a one night kind of guy- because that can’t be as complicated as a relationship. He ends up running into Mia- literally, and wants to know everything about her. And then, they end up working together!! That chemistry threatens to boil over- like a burning pot of pasta!!

Mia seems to fight it- and Chris seems to want it even more. I really enjoyed the story and the characters- the chemistry and the banter, it was all there. I felt so many emotions reading it- and I can’t wait for more!

I had so much fun reading this story. The characters were amazing. The banter was wonderful and the sexual chemistry was sizzling. I loved all of the emotions this story has, sorrow, heartache, fear, excitement, happiness, forgiveness, friendships and love

Kristen Luciani Bio:
Kristen Luciani is a self-proclaimed momtrepreneur with a penchant for Christian Louboutins, Silicon Valley, plunging necklines and grapefruit martinis.  As a deep-rooted romantic who prefers juicy drama to fill the lives of anyone other than her, she tried her hand at creating a world of enchantment, sensuality, and intrigue, finally uncovering her true passion. No pun intended…

Excerpt

Leaning my chair back on its two rear legs, I couldn’t help but laugh again before trying to contain myself. This chick and her soft demeanor were all business. Of course, she would be. Who else would work on Christmas Eve? I was pretty certain she could have made me wait until the day after Christmas to post bond, but here she was defending the public on the most holy night of the year.

Add a big heart to the brain, tits, and long legs I’d already noted in her plus column. Maybe I didn’t want to bang her, but rather cherish this sweet thing? The reality of that seemed slim, seeing as the smart, good girls didn’t go for me. Nor did I expect them to. I was the bad boy, and I had the guilty conscience to back that notion right the fuck up.

“Of course, Ms. Road. It’s Jake, by the way. Just J-A-K-E. Full name is J-A-S-O-N, but I haven’t been called that in twenty years.” I mocked her spelling with my very own rendition, teasing the schoolgirl, looking for a reaction like I was in the third grade. “So, let’s get down to brass tacks and get my ass outta here so you can head home to your . . . husband? Boyfriend? He must be waiting for a gem like you to come home to start the holiday, right?”

No harm in trying.

As I spoke, she narrowed her eyes and glared daggers at me. “Are you done with probing into my personal life, interrogating me? I’m pretty sure I’m not the one in jail.”

Obviously annoyed, she followed that volley with another few leg switches. Left over right, right over left. I wanted to grab her knees and spread her limbs and dive in, let my tongue dig deep into her folds, make her let go of all that stuck-up bullshit she had going on while screaming my name. She probably tasted like sweet honey.

Jake’s twin brother has been covering his ass for as long as they’ve been alive, but that all changes when Jake finds himself in front of the fiery public defender, his future in her hands. For the first time ever, he doesn’t want to involve his brother, finally realizing he needs to stand alone, be his own man.

Even if Jake’s never absolved of his past wrongdoings or his heart is never scrubbed of the blackness that resides there, he can do one good deed—protect the beautiful lawyer who touched his soul—until helping her nearly becomes his own undoing.

Inside it's like a blast to the past, and not my generation's past.  It's way into the past, a throwback to the 50s.  The booths are covered in red leather, with shiny white tabletops.  They stand out against the black and white checkerboard tiled floors.  Even the waitresses look like they're from the 50s, in light pink button-up dresses with white aprons.  As strange as it is, it's got a nice homey feel to it.  And it's packed, so the food must be pretty good.
After seating myself at the bar, I open the menu and see that it's similar to one at a soda shop.  I love a good burger, but my stomach does flips when I see the list of malts they offer.  I haven't had a good chocolate malt in ages.
Ready for some good ol' American diner food, I wait patiently for the waitress to come my way.  When I hear her voice, I don't even bother looking up.  It doesn't matter who it is, I just need my food.  Gruffly, I place my order, "Burger, medium, with everything, fries, and a chocolate malt."
My attitude doesn't faze her.  She just replies, "I'll get it right out for you," and walks away.  I didn’t notice it the first time she spoke, but her voice has a song-like quality, just like Amelia’s; sweet, yet expressive.  I take a moment to swallow down the lump in my throat.  I can’t believe anything here reminds me of Amelia.  It shows me I made the right decision in not going home, since everything would remind me of her.
After a few minutes, she drops off a glass of water without a word.  Curious about the woman who would gladly ignore me in return, I look up as she walks away.  I can't see her face, but the sway of her hips and that tight ass make my cock take notice.
I hear the easy rapport she has with the people around me.  Her laugh is contagious.  Every time I hear it I find myself smiling.  A genuine smile that I haven’t had in a long time.  When I turn around to see the people she’s talking to, you can see the joy on their faces as they engage with her.
When my food arrives, I make a point to look up.  Although I know I'll never give myself the chance to love again, I'd be foolish to think that part of my body will get on board too.  What I don't expect is to look into her eyes and feel that electricity deep into my stomach. She is a vision, with big bright eyes that match her straw-colored hair.  She's on the shorter side, but in good shape.  I can't believe the pull she has on me.
It's too much.  I throw a twenty down on the counter and practically run out of the diner without so much as a word.  I won't be able to go back in there.  She could be trouble for me and my life of solitude.  Her eyes were hypnotic. I'm pretty sure I could be drawn into them and never escape.
I throw the truck into drive as quickly as possible and get the hell out of there, making a mental note to steer clear of the diner when working.  I try to rationalize with myself that it was just hunger, but I know deep down it was more than that.  Fuck! I can't believe I let myself feel that.  It's only been a few weeks since I lost the love of my life, so there's no excuse for feeling like that now.
Hi! I'm Lisa. I live in SUNNY SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA with my wonderful husband and two teenage children. With two kids in high school and involved in activities both inside and outside of school, I have a lot to juggle. When home, I lock myself inside the office to write. I've always loved to write, but life always seemed to be too busy. When inspiration finally hit, I made the most of the time hubby and kids were busy and published my first book in February 2014. I've published a total of 4 books in the past year and am hoping to bring you a few more before 2015 ends.
