Author: Mignon Mykel
Title: Altercation
Series: Prescott Family #4 / Playmaker Duet #1
Genre: New Adult/Sports Romance
Release Date: March 21, 2017

Sometimes it's the fight that proves your worth.

Porter Prescott spent years fighting to be his own person.
His goal of playing for a hockey club not associated with the Prescott name finally comes true.
But just as he's leaving for the next chapter in his life, he meets her.

Asher Spence spent a lifetime learning she was worthless and unwanted.
She learned that sometimes the only person you can count on is yourself, and even then, you can fail.

What starts out as picture perfect can only come crumbling down.
No one listened to her pleas before,
Why should they listen to them now that she's found a place to finally call home?

But sometimes, it's the fight that takes you out of the game.

This DUET can be read as a standalone from the Prescott Family series. However, please note that this is book one in a duet. Book two, Holding, will be releasing within three weeks of Altercation's release, concluding the duet.

 my 4 star review
i really enjoyed this story from Mignon. It was the first in the Prescott family series, but it can be read as a stand alone- the second part comes out fairly soon after Altercations release.

Porter is the hero in this story. And he tried everything he could think of for people to stop associating him with the prescott name alone. He wanted to be his own person. He wanted to play for a hockey club forever- in fact he made it his ultimate goal to do so, and get rid of the Prescott stigma- and he is about to leave to do  just that when he meets Asher.

Asher is the heroine in this story. And she has spent her whole life no privy to the things Porter so readily has. what would you do if you felt so unwanted? if you had no one to turn to in times of need.
But then she meets Porter- and although it was a bit rough, their relationship was a great part of this book.

i can't wait for part two of this story! i really enjoyed it !

I moved to stand where she’d be able to see me, not really caring if I was blocking the view for some other person waiting. I widened my stance and with my arms crossed over my chest, I kept my eyes trained as far back as I could see. My gaze shifted over the different travelers coming in; the only person I wanted to see was a brunette with crazy colored eyes.
And then I saw her.

The feeling that overtook me was like a drowning man getting his first breath of air. A starving man getting a fucking full-course meal.

She didn’t see me yet, but she would in time. There were maybe eighty people between us and she was nearing.

Her hair was braided over her shoulder, wisps of hair falling out and framing her face. She was wearing leggings and those damned boots of hers, but I was surprised to see her shirt was the girly type, long with cuts up the sides, nearly to her waist, and lacy sleeves that played peek-a-boo with the colors adorning her arm. She didn’t carry a bag, just her phone in one hand.

I licked my bottom lip before biting it gently, trying to stop the smile from spreading on my face. Didn’t want to look like a complete moron.

Forty feet.

Her gaze was down at the floor, no doubt watching where she was walking. It didn’t surprise me she was careful like that.

Thirty feet.

Look up, Asher…Look up.

Twenty feet.

Her face lifted and, like a magnet, her eyes locked on mine instantly.

And the smile on her face?

God damn.

There was no sense stopping my full-ass smile now, not with the one she just shot my way.

If you would have told me, four months ago, I would be the most celibate man in the history of earth, all for the glimpses of smiles from that girl there with more secrets behind her eyes than I could ever hope to uncover, I probably would have laughed in your face.

Four months ago, I was gearing up for my rookie season in South Carolina.

Four months ago, I was a kid with a big name, going to a team that had nothing to do with said big name.

Four months ago, it was rumored I would be the new hot shot in town. Nico certainly didn’t fail to show me the gossip sites, seemingly run by a bunch of puck bunnies.

But four months ago, I walked into Starbucks for a goodbye coffee with my sister, and met the girl with secrets.

And four months ago, I became addicted without so much as a taste.

Now that I’ve had that taste? Shit, I couldn’t wait for more.

Holding (Playmaker Duet #2) - Releasing 3/28

Sometimes holding on, impedes moving on.
First comes love, then comes marriage...
But before the ceremony could start, Porter's world was knocked off it's axis.
He fought for years to break down Asher's walls, to see past her ghosts...but some ghosts may be too hard to fight.

Asher knew better than to believe she could keep her past in the past,
Keep the filth of who she was, from touching the Prescott family.
But as badly as she wants to keep Porter away
...she needs his family more.

What you see is what you get...
And even the most astute eyes can't see the biggest ghost.
Sometimes holding on is the only choice you have.

Mignon Mykel is the author of the Prescott Family series, as well as the short-novella erotic romance series, O'Gallagher Nights. When not sitting at Starbucks writing whatever her characters tell her to, you can find her hiking in the mountains of her new home in Arizona.

AP new - synopsis.jpg

"I bet I can untangle you."

At an airport baggage claim, Penny Darling looks up from her knotted mess of ear buds to find the sexiest hunk of man she's ever seen. He's got a military haircut, a scar through his eyebrow, and he's rocking a pastel pink dress shirt like only a real man can. But Penny is on a man-free diet so she leaves the airport without succumbing to his delicious double-entendres...or his dreamy dimples.

PI Russ Macklin can't take his eyes off Penny. As she sashays out of the airport with hips swaying and curls bouncing, he suspects they may share more than just sweltering chemistry. That suitcase she's rolling along behind her? It looks a lot like his.

Because it is.

When he tracks her down, he holds her bag hostage in exchange for a date. Their night begins with margaritas and ends in urgent care, and Russ proves that Cosmo's theory about a very particular type of orgasm was oh-so-wrong.

In Penny, Russ finds a small-town sweetheart with a very naughty side. For the first time ever, he’s thinking about picket fences. Penny finds in Russ a loving, caring man who understands the power of massaging showerheads.

But Russ is only in Port Flamingo for a week. They agree it'll be a fling and nothing more. Because really, they can't fall ass-over-teakettle in love just like that...

Can they?

99k words. HEA. Dual POV. No cheating.
Featuring a big drooly dog named Guppy.

Beast release and review!!

Title: Beast: A Hate Story, The Beginning
Author: Mary Catherine Gebhard
Release Date: March 14, 2017
Add to TBR

Once upon a time, I thought love was a fairytale.

I thought selling myself to a mafia boss was noble. So what if they called him the Beast? I grew up in rags, and he would lift me to riches. All I had to do was give him my soul.

He was punishing. Insatiable. Captivating. Nothing like I expected him to be. Each day my reality blurred, leaving me wondering if I was slave or princess.

The longer I stayed, the more I lost myself to him. Even after every cruelty the Beast visited upon me, I longed for his touch. Even after every savage word he spoke, I begged for his lips. I thought the worst thing he could take was my body. I was too naïve to guard my heart.

Once upon a time, I thought love was a fairytale.

Now I know better than to speak of happily-ever-afters.

Beast is the first book in the Hate Story duet. About what it means to fall in love with the person who has absolutely destroyed you, it contains disturbing and graphic situations that may be a trigger for some.

3.5 stars

Beast is the first story of a duet by Mary Catherine Gebhard, this is the first book I have read by this author- so I was intrigued by that- as well as the fact that the synopsis was so good. It combined fairy tale and mafia- with the retelling (a little bit) of Beauty and the Beast- and the Beast himself actually being part of the mafia.

Francesca Notte is the heroine, and her friends call her Frankie. She promises her life in exchange for her fathers. Her family, more specifically her father, owes money to the mob.

And Beast, the hero, who is essentially the Mob boss in waiting, swoops in and handles the situation. But when he arrives, he basically swoons over Frankie- and he needs to be careful what he does from this point forward. He isn’t the mob boss yet, and one muck up could cost him everything he has worked for.

The story was very back and forth- I felt like a yo-yo. Oh yeah, love Beast. OMG, I hate that guy!!! I really enjoy Frankie, OMG, Frankie is the worst! There was so much back and forth- and the story isn’t just cut and dry, so at certain parts- it was a hard read for me. But that said, the writing was incredible.

And it ended on a WTF cliffhanger from the depths of hell!! I couldn’t believe what I was reading, and I can’t wait for the conclusion in the second final installment.

Mary Catherine Gebhard bites off more than she can chew. She’s lived in Salt Lake City, Utah her entire life but occasionally goes on vacation from reality. Don’t worry, she sends postcards.

I'll admit the premise of this book intrigued me from the start - dying girl posts Craigslist add for travel companion (this is not a spoiler - it was in the blurb)...I definitely haven't read that story before.

The angst level is off the charts high. This book choked me up and definitely broke my heart but the underlying thread of hope, of love, of forgiveness and determination healed me along the way.

Our heroine Erin Camden may have terminal cancer but she chooses to live her life the way many of us wish we had the courage to. She's determined to make her mark on the world in the short time she has left and not even cancer will stop her from this next great adventure.

Cade Wilson has hit rock bottom, his life is in shambles and he's desperate to find a way out of the mess he's created.  When the opportunity arises to get his life back on track he jumps at the chance and in the process embarks on the journey of a lifetime with a dying girl.

I swear this book nearly killed me. I'd never heard of Missy Johnson before but her writing is incredible. Her characters are real and raw and their struggles are relatable. I'm pretty sure cancer has or will touch us all at some point in our lives. We will all know someone who has fought and lost this battle but we also know how much strength and courage those battling the disease have. They never give up fighting. They live, laugh and hopefully love until their last breath.
