What can i say? i am a HUGE Penelope Ward fan. It takes A LOT to get me on the "one click author," band wagon- but i can honestly say, since Gemini, her first book- 15 books ago, i have been hooked for her words. And while she's totally grown as an author- she always has that certain quality that most authors strive to have- uniqueness. the ability to melt your insides and also harden your heart. 

I have been head over heels in love with her second hero- Jake Green since 2013, and I haven't found a hero that has ever surpassed him. Although many heroes I read come close- none are my Jake. That said, Channing gives Jake a run for his money in this story about friends to lovers. 

Amber has just been broken up with. Rory ended things with her after a long time in a relationship- and they have been friends for a long time. It used to be the three musketeers- Amber, Rory, and Channing. But after Channing left for college, Rory swooped in and made his move- staking claim on what Channing thought was his. Rory and Channing made a pact that Amber was off limits- but little did Channing know that Rory had ulterior motives. With Rory out of the picture and Channing in need of a place to stay- he calls Amber. Never knowing what that one phone call might lead to. 

Channing was the ultimate super swoony guy, he had to fake being "Gentleman Nine," an escort service Amber signed up for, for her best interest. (and also maybe a little of his as well.) Channing was not hard to fall for, in fact it was super easy. He was very charming and totally protective. And to a fault- patient and understanding. 

Amber was albeit a bit insecure, but still she was everything and more to me as a heroine. She's compassionate and selfless towards people around her. Amber was heartbroken but I like how she wasn't the fragile type of heroine that we have all read about. 

After Channing explains that he was in fact Gentleman Nine, he also then decides he can be the one to take care of her needs, can Amber handle that, and not get attached?

Then the plot twist happens- and I started to freak out. What would Amber do, how would she proceed? I definitely teared up a few times thinking of how I thought the story would end and how Penelope was going to end it. 

You will have to read this ride of a story yourself to figure out just what i am talking about, it is SO worth it. Definitely one of my favorite Penelope books to date!
