Bright lights blinded from above and gleamed against the stark white floor. I hurtled down the narrow hall, desperate for escape.

With every pounding step, I felt the separation grow. A chasm rending and ripping until I felt myself splitting in two.

Gasping for breath, I stumbled out of the building and into the vacancy of the deep, deep night. Wind gusted, tumbling along the surface of the ground, a stir of agitation at my feet.

Above, the storm raged. Clouds dark and heavy and ominous.

Lightning struck. A crackle of energy shocked through the air. Wrapping me in coils of white-hot agony.

For a moment, I gave into it and let myself feel. I lifted my face to the tormented sky, hands gripping my hair as I screamed.

Screamed in anguish.

Screamed in regret.

Screamed loud enough I would never forget.

A crack of thunder opened the sky.

Rain poured.

My hands fisted at my sides, and I buried the memory of the way he’d felt in my arms, the memory of his face, in the deepest part of me, sealed it off and cemented my heart.

My spirit grasped and wove with the promise I had made him.

I will never fall in love again.

Not ever again.

Not after tonight.

 

My 5 star review of Where Lightning Strikes

I love AL, she always writes the best love stories. I am on the edge of my seat reading them for the most part, and torn on which way the story is going to go. I try to figure out all the twists and turns, but I am always left wanting more long after her story telling is over. 

Remember story telling? At the library when you were little- riveted by the employee that sat there and read to you about the little hen who needed help with dinner, and shocked when no one wanted to help her, and mad when they wanted some in return for doing nothing? Yeah, that’s how I felt reading this book. I was riveted with all the main characters- shocked at the angst and drama, and mad at the stubborn nature of Lyrik and Tamar. But another part that you don’t get when you are younger is the love, the sexiness, the banter- all of that was there too. 

I love all of AL’s books- it’s true, I’ve been a AL geek since Pulled, this book has surpassed her others, for me. The writing in it is phenomenal and kept me rapt with attention through the entire thing.  I read from start until finish, sun up to sun down, squeezing in little tid bits when I could here and there.

Lyrik is the hero, and I really enjoyed him a lot, and thought that Tamar was incredibly good for him. They both had a pretty crappy past, but it’s the moments they are together in the present, that you know they will be toghether in the future for. I really loved the simplicity within all of the complexity, that’s what makes AL the kick ass author she is. Its simple really- Lyrik and Tamar are meant to be together- period. End of story. And everyone can see it. The complexity being that everyone can see it, but them. I love this series from AL and hope it continues with more!
