Synopsis:

Technically, you aren’t supposed to fall in love with your best friend’s girl.
When I was nineteen years old, I was faced with a choice that changed my life.
Keep the safety of what I already knew or risk losing everything with the young, hotheaded soldier who stole my heart.
I chose the wrong man, and for seventeen years, I paid in tears, blood, and shattered dreams for that decision.
Now, there’s a man in my house, holding a gun to my head on the order of my ex-husband—given from his prison cell.
That hotheaded soldier I was too afraid to choose? He’s now a six-foot-three wall of muscle who works at the country’s most premier bodyguard agency. I’ve always wanted him, but now, I’ve never needed him more.
It’s the call I’m terrified to make.
I’m sure he still hates me… Even though I’ve never stopped loving him.

My 5 star review

Much like all of Aly's writing, i have quickly become obsessed with the Guardian Protection. So much so, after i was finished reading Thrive, i immediately PM'ed her to see who the next sizzling hot alpha male i was going to get to read next.

This story is one of second chance romance- with Mira and Lark knowing each other when they were 19. Jeremy Lark was so deep in love with her- but Mira York didn't make the right choice and chose the other friend to their three-pack. And she couldn't have been more wrong.

She thinks she is starting over again, and after three years of being free from her ex, Kurt, but then again someone so manipulative and controlling like Kurt never fully lets go of the ones he loves. Her best friend and her dog get kidnapped- and assume it is all due to Kurt, Mira does the one thing she doesn't want to do- and that is contact Jeremy Lark after all these years and ask for his help.

Jeremy has his own life and a job he loves and twin girls. His wife, was never really his one true love and they are not together, because Mira was always there in the back of his mind. He receives Mira's call and as much as he doesn't want to help her, she still has that pull over him.

I loved Lark's protective nature- it was spotted throughout the entire story- even the flashbacks. He was definitely one of the good guys, and while i was mad at Mira for leaving Lark, i am so glad how the story played out.

I really enjoyed Mira's snit fits, they made her who she was- and that is a strong woman- to have withstood Kurt and everything he did to her, you would have to be strong.

This story had a bit of suspense, and a whole load of sexual tension. I really love Aly's writing so it didn't take me long to get into this one and i loved it from start to finish. I think anyone who loves Aly's stuff will enjoy this one. Its just as good if not better than Singe.

AUTHOR INFORMATION:

Originally from Savannah, Georgia, USA Today bestselling author Aly Martinez now lives in South Carolina with her four young children.   Never one to take herself too seriously, she enjoys cheap wine, mystery leggings, and baked feta. It should be known, however, that she hates pizza and ice cream, almost as much as writing her bio in the third person.   She passes what little free time she has reading anything and everything she can get her hands on, preferably with a super-sized tumbler of wine by her side.
