Synopsis:
Sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never harm me. Whoever coined that phrase is a bald-faced liar. Words are often the sharpest weapon of all, triggering some of the most powerful emotions a human can experience. “You’re pregnant.” “It’s a boy.” “Your son needs a heart transplant.” Sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never harm me. Lies. Syllables and letters may not be tangible, but they can still destroy your entire life faster than a bullet from a gun. Two words—that was all it took to extinguish the sun from my sky. “He’s gone.” For ten years, the darkness consumed me. In the end, it was four deep, gravelly words that gave me hope of another sunrise. “Hi. I’m Porter Reese.”
5 stars !!! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Am i allowed to give books 6 or more stars? Because really- what i read qualifies as more than five. I mean at least 10 stars for this work of art. Seriously.
The Darkest Sunrise gripped me from the synopsis. Not even the first page of the book- just the tiny blurb you are given to lure you in. I had to find out what happened. But what i THOUGHT might happen in my head, definitely didn't play out on paper. It became so much more!
Aly gave us a story- that a lot of people can relate to. Fear and anxiety over losing a loved one- a sibling, a spouse, a child. And what the fear does to you- when it happens, how it happens, how it shapes you into who you are.
I loved the story line, and the relationship between the main characters- Charlotte and Reese. Each of them has known such pain in their lives, they really do have dark and twisty hearts. I really enjoyed watching them interact with one another. Sometimes they relished in the pain together. When they talked of the moments that brought them agony, or when they went back to a certain place, that took them back to the time when they each lost someone dearly, they stayed in the darkness together and spoke of the things they need not mention in the light.
How can you write a review with no spoilers? you just HAVE to. For the sake of this book- i don't really want to give too much away. And i only called Charlotte and Porter by their names because they are in the blurb. The lovely blurb that hooked me in so deeply and never let me go.
I am still thinking about this story and these characters- a week later. I was trying to eloquently describe my feelings without being such a fangirl nerd- but it looks like i can't. The plotline is definitely intense- i will give her that. And it was definitely an emotional roller coaster for me. Ups, downs, highs, lows- it had it all.
i can tell you, every time Aly write a book, its emotional, real- and honest. And i love that about her. So every time Aly writes a book, i read it. Because i know i am getting an experience like no other. Read this book when it comes out the 13th, and wait for the astounding twist that comes, and two weeks later, guess what? read the Brightest Sunset- because i GUARANTEE its going to be amazing.

AUTHOR INFORMATION:
Originally from Savannah, Georgia, USA Today bestselling author Aly Martinez now lives in South Carolina with her four young children. Never one to take herself too seriously, she enjoys cheap wine, mystery leggings, and baked feta. It should be known, however, that she hates pizza and ice cream, almost as much as writing her bio in the third person. She passes what little free time she has reading anything and everything she can get her hands on, preferably with a super-sized tumbler of wine by her side.
