From New York Times bestselling author, Penelope Ward, comes a sexy, STANDALONE second-chance romance.
They called him Mack Daddy. No, seriously, his name was Mack. Short for Mackenzie. Thus, the nickname. Perfect, right?
So was he: perfect. The perfect physical male specimen.
At the private school where I taught, Mack Morrison was the only man around in a sea of women.
Everyone wanted a piece of the hot single father of the sweet little boy.
I was riddled with jealousy, because they didn’t know that—to me—he was much more.
They didn’t know about our past.
He’d chosen my school for his son on purpose, because Mack and I, we had unfinished business.
As my friend Lorelai so eloquently put it: “Unfinished business between two people who are clearly attracted to each other is like an eternal case of blue balls.” And I was suffering in pain from my case.
I was still intensely attracted to Mack. I tried to resist him, immersing myself further into a relationship with another man just to protect my heart.
Not to mention, getting involved with a parent was strictly against school rules. But seeing Mack day in and day out was breaking me down.
And soon I might be breaking all the rules.
Author's note – Told in alternating points of view, Mack Daddy is a full-length standalone novel.
ADD TO GOODREADSMy 5 star review of Mack Daddy Once upon a time there was a girl named Penelope. And Penelope loved to write. She wrote most days until she could barely keep her eyes open, she had so many stories to tell. One of her first stories was of a wild man named Jake- everyone fell in love with him (*we can’t forget Cedric because he was Penelope’s first guy- but Jake… he was untouchable.) Penelope was always trying to be better, write better, and do better. When in fact that wasn’t what she needed to do. She found with a little bit of research and determination that better, isn’t always… well, better. Different was the key- so that is what she set out to do. Now on her twelfth book, she has accomplished just that- being different. This is the story of Mack Daddy. Mackenzie Morrison, or Mack as he is called, is our hero- and we find him with a huge dilemma. How is he going to win back the heart of someone who was never really his in the first place? Mack is the father to Jonah, an awesome little first grader. Jonah has some issues with anxiety, and the fact that his parents have split up does not help with matters. Mack’s ex Torrie (we hate her) has moved from Virginia back to Boston for a job, which makes Mack extremely happy, because he knows this is the hometown of his one true love- and nothing is going to stop him from trying to win her back. Francesca O’Hara, or Frankie as she is called, is a little quirky and a lot awesome. She is a teacher at St. Matthews- a religious school in Boston, and she loves it. It is what she has always wanted to do. And while teaching adults scares the you-know-what out of her, teaching children is her life’s work. When she glances down on her attendance sheet for the first day of school and sees a Jonah Morrison, she has a freak out moment, because that last name is the one of a man she has loved for a long time. Even though she is in a relationship with a man (that is much older) just hearing that last name tosses her back into the past with a vengeance. Mack knows exactly what he is doing by enrolling Jonah in St. Matthews. He knows that Frankie will be there for Jonah, in more ways than a teacher can be. Because he knew that with all of Frankie’s quirks- she would be so similar to Jonah, it would be scary. And when Mack and Frankie see each other again after all those years, it seems like nothing has changed. And even though Mack is not with Torrie and is a proverbial chick magnet, and even though Frankie is with Victor and she owes it to him to stay- Mack and Frankie reuniting is too strong of a pull. Will Mack tell Frankie he loves her, like he always wished he had? Will Frankie dump Victor for the chance to be with her one true love? Will Torrie be a complete B and try to ruin everything? (That’s a yes, by the way) Will there be many bumps along the road to happiness? Penelope’s stories had profound impact on her audience. They loved her words, and counted down the days to the author’s next release. She always had a way of telling the most wonderful stories. Stories that made people laugh, some that made people cry, some that were so filled with angst, they thought their hearts might explode. Her stories always had a message, a carefully plotted out meaning behind each and every one. Mack Daddy is the story of redemption, of hope, of selflessness, of courage. And one that ends, with a happily ever after |
