My 5 star review of Savaged by Nacole Stayton

My 5 star review of Savaged

I love Nacole Stayton- besides being a kick ass human being, she is a GREAT writer. And this book is no exception. I love, love, love fairytale type of stories- where the hero is kind of broken, and the heroine is a strong woman. That is the case of Cambree and Niko. It was reminiscent of Beauty and Beast, in some ways. But it had it all- romance, suspense, drama, angst, good guys, bad guys, and holy Mcsteam!

"I was repulsed by my image. The only way to stay sane was avoidance and avoiding people like the plague. The dark became my closest ally and I cherished it for keeping me concealed."

Niko was the bad boy- he had everything he could ever want in life, that was until he was brutally attacked- and left for dead. Now, his world is shrouded in darkness, never venturing from the manor where he lives- running his business in that same way. But even the hermit Niko, has manly needs. He never sees these women, and they of course can’t see him- but he hires them anyway through the help of his assistant and best friend, Jarrod.  And while it sounds terrible for him to hire women that way, I got it. He was still a very vulnerable man, and he couldn’t take chances venturing out of the confines of the dark because of the panic inside of him.

I know if I get too close I’ll get burned. Scorched to death even. But being close to you is worth the risk.”

Bree has been one of my favorite heroines lately. She fights for what she loves, and she never gives up. I love the way she interacts with Niko- and how she is different than all the other women who fall at his feet. She gives him a dose of his own medicine, as it were. You possibly could say it’s a case of insta-love. But I love the bond they shared and how it all started in the dark. Because as a society we rely so much on looks- that it was almost a breath of fresh air that they loved each other in the shadows.

“I’d much rather be in the dark with him, than not at all.”

I really have enjoyed Nacole’s other books- but I think for this one, she did her research, took her time, really let the idea of this take root and made a fantastic book- that I recommend to everyone. It’s almost as if she has stepped out of her comfort zone a bit for this, and tended to walk the dark side of romance. The book ended well and most loose ends have been tied up. I am interested to see if there will be another book in this series from how the last few pages went, and I truly hope so. I can’t wait for more of this story and the many others from Ms. Stayton!
