The Year I met August release and review!!

Title: The Year I Met August
Author: Renea Porter
Genre: New Adult Romance
Release Date: May 13, 2016
It was the summer before college and Murphy was ready to experience life, as any girl should. During an outing with her sister she meets August. He's older, and more experienced than she is.

She knew a relationship at this point was almost pointless. With an internship at the end of summer and then college in the fall. Her schedule was full.

Murphy told herself that she could walk away from August without any repercussions. If only her heart had listened.

Walking away at the end of the summer was difficult. But they agreed to keep in touch and see each other whenever possible. They still didn't put a label on their relationship.

Eventually August showed his true self. He was so ashamed, he hid his secret from her for as long as possible. Now that his secret was out, Murphy had no clue how to handle it.

Will she stay with him so they can deal with it together? Or will it be too much for her to take on?

My 4 star review of The Year I Met August

I really enjoyed this story from Renea and I love discovering new authors.

Murphy is the heroine and she is a strong character- and is ready to go to college, and a relationship is something that had never crossed her mind- until her sister introduced her to August.
August is the hero of the story and he has a secret that he hides from Murphy. A secret that threatens to destroy the relationship he was building with her.

I really enjoyed the growth of the characters as it spanned over five years time. This book discusses some current topics, and some that need to be discussed which is what I really loved about this book. Not all relationships are hearts and flowers- and we have to love others through the nasty things they are going through.

How long did it take you to fall in love? Was it a day, two, a month? Maybe it took you a year. It only took me ten days to fall in love. I never knew someone could fall for me. But he did, and it was the most powerful thing I’ve ever experienced.
It was 2006 and the summer after high school graduation. My parents decided to haul the family to our family vacation home for the last leg of the summer. The summer house was nestled in Dragon’s Bay, New York. It was its own little island, but it had everything a beach town had shops, restaurants, and a stretch of beach for miles. My siblings were old enough to bring their significant others, but I was only seventeen and had no one.
All through school, I was always getting picked on for being smart. I was known as Nerdy Murphy. By high school, I was used to the teasing. I took all AP classes, graduating a year early, so it was expected. But I was proud of my accomplishments. Still, the teasing stung. Friends were practically non-existent and none of the boys asked me out on dates. Mom said my intelligence intimidated them and it was their loss. Who needs boys, anyway?
I was the baby out of my three siblings, and I think my father was happy I wasn’t boy crazy, like my sister. He was grooming me to follow in his footsteps. To become a neurosurgeon like him. In ten days, I’d get to intern at one of the top hospitals in the area. My dad claimed he had some pull and pulled the strings that he needed to, to get me an internship. Then I’d be off to med school just like my father had planned.
With over ten books out, Renea Porter is best known for writing realistic stories with realistic characters. Her stories may even cause you to shed a tear or two. She mainly writes New Adult and Contemporary Romances. However, she's not afraid to venture into other genre's like Paranormal Romance.

She enjoys spending time with her husband of fourteen years, and step son. She calls Pennsylvania home, but loves to travel and try new things. In her free time you can catch her reading books, watching reality tv, and baking.
