4 star review for, For the Love of Ash- Taylor Lavati

Luke Wilson and Maggie Larkin could not have met at a worse time. Maggie is overwhelmed as a single parent raising her nine year old brother Asher after the death of their parents. Add a meddling grandmother who is determined to watch Maggie fail and the stress of completing her college degree so that she can provide a good life for Asher and Maggie is almost at her breaking point.  The last thing she is looking for a man to distract her from her priorities. Luke and Maggie's first encounter is in a college class and then again when she learns that Luke is Asher's gym teacher. Maggie is determined to avoid the handsome grey eyes Luke. Unfortunately, Luke has other plans.

Luke wants nothing more than to make his own way, to distance himself from his dysfunctional parents. His father is abusive and his mother is oblivious. All Luke wants to focus on is protecting his younger siblings from his destructive father. The last thing he's looking for is love but when he lays eyes on Maggie all bets are off

" I didn't even question myself as I looked over at this woman who was so passionate about her brother that I actually felt my chest constrict. I knew it had to be love."

Of course, like any good romance book there's got to be a little angst. It can't all be sunshine and roses. This book had just enough angst to keep the story going.

This was a new author for me and I really liked the characters. Both Luke and Maggie have similar backgrounds having grown up with difficult parents, both struggling to prove themselves and break the cycles they grew up with. Maggie is desperate to do the right thing for Asher and I really admired her character. No matter what was thrown at her she persevered.
